Closing celebration 2009

Referat: inaugural ‘Presidential Dinner’

A formal dinner function was held at  the end of season at at the Aarhus Cricket Club on September 11th, 2009. A memorable date. The inaugural ‘Presidential Dinner’ commenced at 7 pm and had been preceded by a round-robin six-a-side cricket tournament during the afternoon.

During dinner the following speeches and presentations were made: Joshua welcomed everyone on behalf of the organizing committee. The team captains, Peter Crawford and Anders Grønlund/Hans Højer (respectively, South and North div.) thanked each of their players for their efforts during the 2009 season. Carl Sejr, the departing club president, made a memorable speech and thanked everyone for supporting him during these last few seasons. Not a seat was dry. Calle now moves on to Esbjerg where we wish him the best of luck. Before departing he inaugurated the prize for ‘best batsman’ – aka. the ashes – since it consist of the burnt remains of his bat. Legend has it, that this bat twice has scored more than a hundred runs in a match. It is awarded for best seasonal batting average.

The ashes Prize for best batsman (2009)…………………………..Carl Sejr

The Morild Trophy for best ‘club man’ (2009)….Anders Grønlund

The latter trophy was presented by Club President incumbent, Peter Crawford, who presented himself to the audience. There was much rejoicing and gnashing of teeth.

Members and guests enjoyed a fine meal prepared by chef Adrian. Speeches and presentations were followed by a surprise visit by Col. M. Khadafi, much to the bewilderment of the attending dinner guests. He promptly denied all accusations, and proceeded to initiate the boat races so as to find a winner of the Chug-a-lug Cup. This, however, did not eventuate. Everyone is thanked for attending.
