Skanderborg vs. Århus

Tight fielding – sloppy batting

Tossing resulted in the traditional loss and we were placed on a damp Århus field in otherwise beautiful weather. Bowling was nice and tight and resulted in a succession of wickets – most as a result of some very elegant catches. Phil had an exceptional slip-catch, which our otherwise fine umpire ruled as “not out” because he judged it to have been taken of the grass, but Jens then started a wave of catches with a real showboat catch of a high ball drifting away from him and taken making a monkey-kung fu style roll-dive over the shoulder. Exceptional athleticism!

Alan completed a 5-34 wicket haul with style.

Skanderborg however had some hard-hitters which though typically not in for to long managed to score in the 30’s with some tremendous six’es – one resulting in the loss of the match-ball. Even the Skanderborg youngsters in a very positive style managed to scrape together points

Especially the last pair being a total contrast in size, age and experience managed to scrape at least 30 points together with crafty switching of the player at stroke. Regretfully the author of this match summary lost his concentration and dropped at least one catch from this pair. Skanderborg scraped together a total of 155 in a non-convincing, but still well-fought innings.

The score set by Skanderborg made the team optimistic, but the starting 5 batsmen unfortunately was not able to produce scores that could underline this optimism. Phil though being an exception with some nice boundaries and a total of 45 tried to instil some confidence in his batting partners.

The usually strong Århus tail could not help and Århus was all-out for a total of 118.

Skanderborgs young bowlers produced good bowling and everyone bowling could place the balls regularly and straight on the wicket. Skanderborgs fielders were also very sharp in the art of stopping, retrieving and returning the ball – even there sub 1.5 meter players were of a high standard. So praises to Århus for sharp fielding and good bowling, and praises to Skanderborg for a superior fighting will.
