Århus vs. Skanderborg

It’s a funny old game…

Looking to avenge our defeat from Sunday Århus arrived in a buoyant mood. Hans made sure that we batted first and there was an air of confidence amongst the Århus elite. It didn’t last long, Århus lost the early wicket of Jeff to a run out, which should/could have never been a single. And, it went on from there. Thomas ct in the covers, Phil out LBW hans ct behind and Århus had amassed the grand total of 29 for 6. In an 18 over game things were not looking so bright for the home team. Peter, Nikkel and the long tail managed to stumble us to the total of 65 all out in our last over.

So Århus needed to bowl and field well and that they did. It was a question of how many overs we could bowl before they reached their target. They would reach their target of course it was only 65 and they had 18 overs. Phil started and kept a good line and length. Nikkel form the other end was also putting the ball in the right places and to great effect. Skandeborg found it tough going and when Nikkels second over yeilded 3 wickets there was a glimmer of hope amongst the Århus faithful. Phil pitched in with 1 wicket and Nik took over from Nikkel whilst Mani replaced Phil, the collapse then ensued. The visitors kept missing the straight ones and hitting the rest in the air and with the Århus team in a rich vain of catching form the opposition wickets were falling and Århus sensed an extremely unlikely victory may be in sight. And victory they snatched. Bowling Skandaborg out for 45. The Champagne moment went to Oliver for his direct hit run out.

The talk (and there was lots of it) after the game, was all about the strange game of cricket and disbelief at what had just happened. 110 runs, 32 overs and 20 wickets. Certainly a game for the memoirs of all those involved.
