Århus vs. Odense

In keeping with tradition Århus lost the toss and were put into bat by Odense on a warm sunny Saturday morning.

Odense started brightly. Their openers playing watchfully at first before opening the shoulders a bit. One of their openers being more prepared to punish the loose balls than his partner. The opening partnership was good for about 70 runs before the first wicket fell, being caught by Peter of the bowling of Mani but not before a fist full of catching chances chances went begging.

After this the wickets began to fall and fairly regular intervals with some smart catches being taken in parts of the field. Despite this the score continued to rise so although only one of Odense’s batsmen posted a real score they managed to reach a respectable 193 all out, the last wicket falling in the 35th over.

Århus ended with bowling figures of: Anders 18/3 from 4.5, Mani 45/2 from 9, Peter 39/3 from 6.

So it was Århus’s turn to go out and chase the score and got off to a flying start. The 2 openers putting on 100 for the first wicket after 25 overs. Rajesh played a great, free flowing innings at No. 2 to post 58 before being caught behind. Alex played a solid support role before retiring hurt from a blow to the shoulder.

Afterwards the wickets started to fall and the run rate started to go up. Some smart, tight bowling from Odense and some adventurous running from Århus made sure that the run rate, whilst not too high, was climbing at quite a rate and meanwhile the wickets kept falling. Århus were eventually all out for 122 in the 32 over, 72 runs short of a victory.
